Here's a picture of me taken a few weeks ago. The belly's finally starting to show.
Here's a picture of Jef and me at the Renaissance Festival near Houston. We went sometime in October. My belly wasn't big enough to show very clearly, but too big to fit into my usual renaissance dress, which is also my wedding dress.
Seriously! Wouldn't it be great to have the baby develop in a pouch
like a kangaroo so that you could just look at him/her whenever you
want to? I really wonder what he's doing sometimes, especially when
he's very active. Plus, if he was sitting in a spot that's
uncomfortable for me, I could just pick him up and move him. I would
just love that! :)
I wonder if a future generation (our daughters or grand daughters)
will just have their doctor put a tiny camera in the uterus and
they'll wear a wristwatch on which they can look at the baby whenever
they want to.
Mind you I'm already thrilled that I got to see him once in my
ultrasound. I feel sorry for our moms who didn't even have that luxury.
This is the ultrasound. It was done at about 20 weeks on 10/14/2003. It was amazing being able to see him for the first time. I was suprised at how clearly we could see all of him. His heart, brain, spine and everything else checked out ok. We also checked for extra fingers or toes since that runs in my family. I was born with 6 fingers on one hand and 6 toes on both feet, but the baby didn't seem to have any extra ones. Even if he does, as the tech pointed out, it's always better to have too many than not enough because you can remove extra ones in an operation (which is what was done with me). The ultrasound tech also pointed out that it was definitely a boy. The baby was pretty active during the ultrasound. He kept trying to push and kick against the spot where the ultrasound device was. I don't think he liked it much.
It's a shame this will be our only ultrasound, I really loved seeing him in person. I wish I had a little window into my belly, or that humans were marsupials and could look at the babies growing in our little pouch. :)
I decided to create this weblog to follow the baby's from pre-birth and everything after. I'm currently 25 weeks along and the due date is 2/25/2004. I'm kind of hoping he'll be born on the 29th because next year is a leap year and I think it would be fun to get to tease him about only having a birthday every four years. We know from our ultrasound that it'll be a boy. And we have chosen the name Robert Thomas (for now). It was a bit difficult to find a name that would sound good in Czech, Dutch and English and I'm glad we found this one.
The pregnancy has been pretty uneventful so far. My ob & nurses call it the "perfect textbook pregnancy" whenever I see them for a check-up. I had a bit of nausea during the first trimester, but nothing overwhelming. Now in the later stages of my second trimester I mainly have to pee a lot and eat a lot. I think he's sitting right on top of my bladder so I have a bit of soreness there. Other than that, it's going great! I've been able to feel him kick pretty regularly since week 19 or so. He seems to be especially active in the middle of the night. I hope that's not an indication of what his sleeping pattern will be like after he's born!
