Month 7 Progress Report

Robbie just turned 7 months (Sept 15). His last doctor's visit went well. He now weighs 16 lb 15 oz, and is 27 1/2 inches tall. He is in the 45% for weight, 85% for length and 90% for head size. The doctor said he looked very healthy.

He is now eating 2 meals of solids per day. In the morning he gets yogurt or cereal with pureed fruit, and in the evening he gets a serving of pureed vegetables. I've started making his food myself. I'm following advice and recipes from the Super Baby Food book. It's pretty easy to just put some avocados or bananas in the food processor and add water to make it more liquid. I then freeze it in ice cube trays and when it's frozen, I remove it from the trays and put it into freezer bags. I can easily make a month's worth of a vegetable in a few minutes. He likes most things, though he sometimes needs to try a new food a few times before he really starts liking it. So far he's only refused green beans. I don't blame him! So far he has tried avocados, bananas, sweet potatos, carrots and mangos.

Developmentally, he's very active. He's sitting by himself perfectly now. He can sit and play with some toys for many minutes. He's always trying to crawl and can raise himself into a crawling position with his belly off the floor, but can't move yet. He can move around in a circle on his belly and also scoot backwards a bit. I often set him on the floor with toys all around him and he'll turn from one toy to another. He also keeps trying to stand. He has one activity table where he can stand and lean against it and play with the toys on it. I do need to sit behind him because he loses balance easily. That doesn't stop him from trying though!

He's still not sleeping through the night. He wakes up about 3 times. We have recently moved him into a crib right next to our bed. He was waking up even more frequently before that. Now he manages to wake up and go to sleep without feeding a few times. On average though he wakes up and needs to feed at 1 am, 3 am, and 6 am. I'm trying to get rid of the 3 am feeding. So far we had one night this week where he skipped it and just went to sleep on his own without crying. During the day he mostly still just takes half hour "power naps".

He likes to play with them:

Of course he still loves his exercauser too:

What a busy baby! Time to practice crawling:

Did I say play? I meant "work". This is very tiring:

Time for a nap:

Back from Vacation

We were in the Czech Republic and Netherlands for most of the month of August visiting Robbie's grandparents.

During that time Robbie:

  • visited the Netherlands and Czech Republic
  • got to know his extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins
  • flew in airplanes, rode on trains and a monorail
  • became an expert at sitting
  • grew 2 teeth
  • tasted cola, cake and ice cream (mostly thanks to his Czech grandma)
  • discovered a love of food
  • had a half-year birthday
  • spent lots of time ourside in the pool and on walks
  • went to an art exhibit
  • made friends with 2 dogs (though one liked to steal his socks)
  • laughed a lot, cuddled a lot, growled a lot

    Photos comming next...
